OYAMA DOG FESTIVAL

Oyama area's people gather to celebrate Mekke Inu the Heroic Dog's memory, who died fighting the demons that haunted Sugio Shrine according a 300 years old legend.  Children will like the dog parade and parents will enjoy the Edo Period (17-18th century) period's parade with beautiful court ladies and horse riders.

SHONAI TAISAI

Shonai people never forget. Should their clan be defeated, they will still remain loyal towards it. Shonai Clan, the leading clan during Edo Period (1604-1868) was defeated during Boshin War (1868). Every year, Shonai Shrine celebrates Shonai Clan's memory through historical parades and rifle performances. Children will like the beautiful court ladies in kimono and the horse-riding samurais.

SAKURA MATSURI

Tsuruoka Cherryblossom Festival takes place in Tsuruoka Park. Several food and game stands are temporarily built alongside the hundreds of cherry trees of the park, which made the park one of the top 100 most beautiful places to see cherry blossoms in Japan. We recommend to come at the end of the period to experience the "Cherryblossom snowstorm" Sakurafubuki 桜吹雪, when the petals swarmingly swing in the wind.
